To get this look, first get some hair clips at a beauty supply store -- the kind made to hold curlers in place.

Step 1: Roll 1-inch sections of hair around a 1-inch curling iron. (Roll bottom-up, like you're putting in a classic curler.) As you finish each curl, re-roll it with your fingers and clip it against your head.
Step 2: When your whole head is curled, clipped and cooled, release.
Step 3: Brush each curl with a Mason Pearson, or boar-bristle brush. "This adds shine, and it will make curls look polished and 'done,'" Le Complete says.
Step 4: Pin hair back behind one ear.
If you don't have thick hair, clip on a layered extension that runs from ear to ear in back. The extra strands will give you lots of twists in the back.

Step 1: Apply a pea-size dab of grooming cream to dry hair (try Bumble and bumble Grooming Creme, $25). "It will help your hands move through it better," Le Comlepte says. Apply a second pea if hair feels dry.
Step 2: Using your fingers, pull back a 1-inch section and twist it until it twists onto itself; pin it in place.
Step 3: Load the back of your head with twists.
Step 4: Allow any little pieces that fall out, to stay out. It's a not-perfect look, so don't sweat the imperfections.
